Meetings

The Antarctic Club organizes a meeting once a year, around Midwinter. For 2008, the meeting will take place on the Saturday the 21st of June.

GEM Village (Gunners and Engineers Memorial Village) offer their facitilities to us at a very reasonable rate. Centrally located for members from both Johannesburg and Pretoria, it is situated in the peaceful country atmosphere of Irene, not far from the Smuts Museum. Tall trees fill the terrain, and there is lots of space for children to play. There is plenty of secure parking.

Route to GEM Village:

  • 1. From Johannesburg:
    • a. Take N1 (Eastern Bypass) to Pietersburg.
    • b. Take the Botha Avenue offramp in Centurion and turn right into Botha Ave which will become Main Street.
    • c. Cross over two sets of robots and turn left at four way stop at Nelmapius Ave towards Rietvlei.
    • d. Pass underneath train bridge and immediately turn right into Jan Smuts Road.
    • e. Continue for approximately 2 km past VEK Church on left hand side, Twin Rivers Estate on right hand side, Jan Smuts Museum on left hand side till end of tar road and turn left into GEM Village to first building on the left hand side (about 50 m).
  • 2. From Pretoria East:
    • a. Take N1 (Eastern Bypass) to Johannesburg and then take Botha Avenue off ramp and turn left into Botha Avenue (Main Road).
    • b. Follow directions 1c. as from Johannesburg (only cross one robot after turning into Botha Avenue).
  • 3. From Pretoria Central:
    • a. Take Botha Avenue to Centurion at Fountains and after passing underneath N1 follow directions 1c. as from Johannesburg.
